Getting to Know You — Beyond Your MS

I’m currently working on a presentation about multiple sclerosis (MS), but I’m trying to make part of it not about MS.

The event for which I’m preparing is an international MS patient and patient advocacy organization summit taking place in Prague in May. German social media expert Birgit Bauer and I will be delivering a master class on MS communications in a rotating forum that all attendees will sit in by the end of the two-day meeting.

I’ve been going through several “icebreaker” scenarios for our workshop, and although the following is not the one I settled on, I thought it might be fun for our community to have a go at it.

Who Would Play You in the Movies?
We’ve talked before about the subject of multiple sclerosis in Hollywood films and of art’s and artists’ connections to MS. We’ve even talked about the disease as a character in the story of our lives.

Today I thought we’d take the MS out of it and play a little parlor game that’s an old favorite of my friends.

Of all the actors or actresses that have ever graced the stage or screen, who would play you in a hypothetical film about your life? Then, after you’ve decided who would play you, imagine that you have just two words of character direction to offer this actor. Just two words!

As we approach our blog’s 10-year anniversary next month, I know that some of you have been with us for nearly that whole time, and I also know there are far more of you who have joined us along the way via social media or through other sources.

Why not let us know about you?

There is much that can be gleaned about how you see yourself fitting into the world around you by the thespian you would choose and the two little words you would give that actor.

Maybe it’s trite, or maybe it’s not the kind of thing you come to the Life with MS blog looking for. Sometimes (most times in my life, really) I prefer to look at the life part rather than the MS part.
