NPR Show Features ‘Life With Multiple Sclerosis’

Trevis Gleason

Well now, 2016 has started off with a bang for your Life With Multiple Sclerosis blogger!

I awoke New Year’s Day to an inbox full of greetings and one particular email from the office of travel guru Rick Steves. The producers of Mr Steves’s radio program were getting in touch to let me know that an interview we’d recorded previously had been assigned an air date!

The radio show, called Travel with Rick Steves, is syndicated to over 200 NPR stations around the United States and also broadcast in Canada. The air dates vary by location, but I was told it would be the first show of the new year. In many markets, that meant less than 24 hours notice.

With holiday schedules and all, it was difficult to get word out in time for our community to listen live, but this is the age of the podcast.

I’m happy to say that Program 429, “Fresh Start in Ireland,” is now available to listen to online.

Chatting About Ireland, MS, and My Dear Puppy, Sadie
We talked about a lot of things while recording the interview. I was in the studios of WUSF — Tampa, Florida’s NPR station — and Mr. Steves was in his own studio in Edmonds, Washington. We talked about so much that I had no idea what would actually make it into the final cut.

I must say that the engineers at WUSF made me sound very professional. I’ve been told I have a face for radio, and they made it sound like I might even have the voice for it as well.

I hope you have a chance to listen to the interview, which takes up the first 15 minutes or so of the program. It was a real pleasure chatting about Ireland, multiple sclerosis, and my dear puppy, Sadie. I’ve already been getting responses from hundreds of people who heard the show.
