Off-patent Drugs Bill fails at second reading

Posted on 06 Nov 2015 at 3:56PM by Emma Barnes

Today, the Off-patent Drugs Bill was scheduled for its second reading in Parliament. Although the Bill was debated by MPs there wasn’t enough time for a vote to take place.

Government opposition

The Government made clear they were opposed to the Bill, despite significant support across political parties, charities and constituents.

This does not mean our campaign was all in vain. We showed once again this is a vital issue that can attract cross-party support in Parliament and widespread popular support outside of it.

During the debate MPs read out a number of your letters and shared the experiences of people with MS countless times. We were mentioned as a supporter of the Bill by a number of MPs, and another mentioned they supported our Treat Me Right campaign.

We wont give up

Positively, the Government has pledged to work with organisations such as the MS Society to find a solution.

We pledge to continue our campaign to ensure the Government lives up to that promise.

Sign up to our campaigns community, we’ll keep you up to date with our progress.
