Husband's pride over Morriston Hospital unit named in honour of wife Jill: SLIDESHOW

Perry Rowe in the Morriston Hospital unit named in honour of his wife Jill

Jill Rowe, a multiple sclerosis sufferer, died in 2011, leaving her family and colleagues at Morriston Hospital devastated.

The Jill Rowe Neurology Ambulatory Unit has now been opened in honour of the senior sister who was a member of the team that established the hospital's cardiac centre before becoming service manager for cardiac and neuro services.

It is a treatment and investigation day unit for patients with neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease and epilepsy — and it is already helping to change the lives of people who use it.

jill's husband Perry was guest of honour at the opening ceremony and was watched by family, friends and many of Jill's former colleagues as he cut the ribbon at the dedicated unit.

He said: "The happiest day of my life was my wedding day, the proudest day of my life was today.

"Jill loved her job and she loved all the people here at Morriston Hospital. This is a huge honour.

"She had wonderful care from the staff here and this amazing state-of-the-art unit is a fitting testament to her memory."

Consultant neurologist Owen Pearson, clinical lead of the neuro-inflammatory (multiple sclerosis) team that treated Jill, said: "This unit is life-changing in terms of how we treat patients and we are already seeing the benefits. It is a terrific facility and Jill acts as an inspiration to me."

The new unit, staffed by two nurse practitioners and a staff nurse, boasts four infusion chairs and one bed, as well as a consultation room and a treatment room.
