Grape Day 5K taking applications for race against multiple sclerosis

It's just down the road, so maybe you'll want to run there next month at the 2015 Grape Day 5K. It's a fundraising fun run-walk-stroll event through historic downtown Escondido, on Saturday, Sept. 12.

National Multiple Sclerosis Society South Coast Chapter will be the charity recipient, according to the Escondido Sunrise Rotary Club, which runs the event.

The 5K race will begin and end at the corner of West Grand and Orange avenues in Escondido. More than 500 runners and walkers are expected to participate. Race participants will receive a commemorative medal, moisture-wicking sport shirt and other items.

It will be followed by a parade along Grand Avenue and a festival in Grape Day Park featuring live entertainment, children's activities, grape stomping, food trucks and fun for the entire family.

MS symptoms can range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis, as well as blurred vision, loss of balance, poor coordination, slurred speech, tremors, numbness, extreme fatigue and cognitive deficits. Symptoms might be permanent, or they might come and go.

Race registration is underway. Runners and walkers of all ages and abilities are welcomed. Participant donation begins at $40 for youth age 15 and under and $45 for adults. For more information, visit www.GrapeDay5K.com.
