MS 150: fighting multiple sclerosis by biking

Thousands of bikers are making the trek down through Minnesota, all for a good cause.

The MS 150 is underway raising money to fight a life altering neurological disease.

Over 4,000 bikers took off from Proctor High School on an epic journey south.

The MS 150 heads down the Willard Munger trail towards Hinckley, raising money to go towards helping people with multiple sclerosis.

"This ride will raise nearly three million dollars to help people with MS right here in Minnesota and also fund research to hopefully end this disease soon," said Holly Anderson, chapter president of the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

MS is a debilitating neurological disease that wears at nerve endings, having a wide variety of life changing symptoms.

"There are people who have MS that were in school to be surgeons, in school to be pilots, and these are careers they can't continue because they have no idea if their vision will go out or if they'll be unable to, say, use their hands for surgery," said Anderson.

Emily Blosberg was diagnosed with MS four years ago.

She says dealing with the fatigue and other symptoms of the disease is difficult, but seeing so many people working to help those suffering with MS is inspiring.

"Knowing that there are so many people with the same focus on fighting MS, fighting a cure for MS, and just continuing to raise all the funds, it's amazing," said Blosberg. I definitely always feel the support."

While this is some riders' first MS 150, others are a bit more experienced.
"The fifty state challenge started five summers ago.

It took me five summers to complete all fifty states," said Bruce Reid.
Bruce Reid has ridden his bike for MS in every state in the country.

He says originally he had no connection to the disease, but after completing a 1–hundred and fifty mile MS ride in Florida, things started to come together.
