Trigeminal Neuralgia (TN) Pain

Trigeminal Neuralgia (TN), also called tic douloureux, is a chronic neuropathic pain condition that causes extreme, sporadic, sudden burning or shock-like face pain that lasts anywhere from a few seconds to as long as two minutes per episode. The intensity of pain can be physically and mentally incapacitating.

These action tools can help you get started with your pain advocacy efforts right away:

As a part of its global year against headache campaign (2011-12), the International Association for the Study of Pain created the fact sheet Trigeminal Neuralgia and Persistent Idiopathic Facial Pain that can be used for community education and outreach efforts.

The Facial Pain Association has created the Facial Pain Network as a support system and information network and exchange for facial pain community events and awareness activities. For more information and to get involved, visit www.endthepain.org.

Trigeminal Neuralgia is also sometimes found in people with Multiple Sclerosis.
